Some things are difficult to part with and this antique-painted oak storage box is no exception; it has character overload.  The box is made of solid oak with handmade dovetail joints.  They are so intricate and whoever made it was proud of their handiwork.  On the top edges and four corners, it is finished in metal.  It has small metal handles on the sides and two catches to keep the lid closed, one of which doesn’t close properly.  I have painted it in Annie Sloan Chalk paint, distressed and waxed.  However, this could all be easily stripped back to bare wood and metal if painting isn’t your thing.  I was advised that it was used for gas masks in the world wars but I cannot authenticate that.  This antique-painted oak storage box is a rare piece and is reflected in the price.
