VINTAGE PORTMEIRION “CHEMIST PRINT” TANKARDS

How great are these vintage Portmeirion “Chemist Print” tankards?  In early 1962, Portmeirion Trading took over Gray’s Pottery and Kirkhams which were existing businesses.  These designs were taken from copperplate images that were stored in Kirkham’s attic; many of them depicting Victorian advertisements and which, eventually, became known as Medicine Prints and, then, Chemist Prints.  The transfers do look authentic and the tankards would easily sit comfortably amongst your collected treasures of other advertising ware.  The Egyptian Salve one does have a hairline crack and both have all-over crazing which we think gives them character and charm.  They would make lovely vases for fresh or dried flowers; they certainly are quirky!
