VINTAGE Redouté ROSE FRAMED BOOK PLATE “Rosa Multiflora Carnea”

This is a stunning vintage Redouté bookplate of a “Rosa Multiflora Carnea”.  Pierre-Joseph Redouté (10 July 1759 – 19 June 1840), was a painter and botanist from Belgium, known for his watercolours of roses, lilies and other flowers at Malmaison, many of which were published as large, colour stipple engravings. He was nicknamed “the Raphael of flowers” in the court of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette and has been called the greatest botanical illustrator of all time.  You can see why can’t you; the attention to detail is fabulous.

This picture is framed with a vintage gold plaster frame which could easily be painted if you wanted a change of colour.  It can be displayed by propping up on a shelf, dresser or wherever takes your fancy; it is a beautiful vintage piece and a collector’s item; do you know anyone who would love this displayed in their home; we certainly do…!
